Angels & Lace

" You'll meet more angels on a winding path than on a straight one." ~Daisey Verlaef
I may have mentioned before that a local church in our area has a place where they sell donated items and I scored a bunch of vintage lace the last time I was there...for a quarter a piece! It's so much fun to go there. They have everything from clothes and books to hardware and dishes. It's so cool to browse and check out all the goodies. I took the lace today and soaked it in some coffee and baked(burnt) it a bit. I'm gonna make some cloth journals. Maybe with quotes or inspirational thoughts inside...the possibilities are endless really. I've never made one but I'm excited about trying!

Nice lace... angel is adorable. How interesting soaking it in coffee then baking it.Now with sketching I did the paper with a teabag to make it a brownish tint or to look aged a bit. Ive never heard of this with lace. Thanks for that Kim.I will keep it in mind.

Thanks everyone! I started on one tonight and it's a bunch of fun. I should have changed the color thread in my sewing machine though :)
Becky, I usually use like 5 heaping tablespoons of instant coffee(just the cheapy kind) to about a cup of hot water, or you can heavier if you want, and put in all kinds of materials, lace whatever for that prim grunge look. You can add cinnamon too before you bake for an even grungier look and a nice smell :) I usually bake at about 200 degrees for 10 or 15 minutes. I always keep a close eye on it though.
